Hello Bella Diva

Its been a Hot a Minute since my last blog.  I apologize!!  This time of year gets extra crazy with events and deadlines and…just life. Who else gets overwhelmed this time of year?
Sooooooo I have learned to put things in order of priority much better these days so stress doesn’t take over.  Which by the way, has helped in all areas of my life and the more you do it the easier it gets and you realize all the extra stress and anxiety does not need to be there!!!

Tis The Season

Okay we know this time year approaches much quicker then we ever anticipate.  I feel as though Holiday season really snuck up fast this year for some reason.
I think we all know by now December is that month of extra parties, extra food and drink and our time gets sucked away which in return puts our workouts last.  With that said, lets discuss some ways and reminders on how we can still Enjoy this time of year without becoming grouchy, bitchy and ba-humbug women!  haha.
This is truly a wonderful time of year, yet most of us can’t wait for it to end.  Lets change that!!!

Healthy Holiday Ideas

Don’t skip meals. Skipping a meal with the goal of saving calories prior to a holiday event can often backfire and lead to overeating due to ravenous feelings of hunger. Having a filling snack, such as fruit, string cheese, yogurt or a small handful of nuts, can help to curb your appetite and prevent overeating.  Yes Yes Yes!
Contribute a healthy dish. Ensure at least one nutritious choice is available at potlucks by contributing a healthy dish. I do this ALL the time.  You know there will be veggies and maybe some cheese and crackers, but bring your own yummy healthy Diva-licious dish.
SEE BELOW for a few of my quick and yummy favs
Choose your splurges. Scan the buffet or dinner table and choose a couple holiday favorites to splurge on instead of foods that you can have any other day of the year.
Think Color. Make a plate look festive by including fruits and veggies. Aim to cover half the plate.
Choose drinks wisely. Stick to calorie-free drinks, such as water, tea or club soda with lemon  instead of high-calorie festive drinks.  If you do choose to have an adult beverage or 2, like I usually do,  do so in moderation, and alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water.
Best Choices: Start with a vodka or tequila with club soda with a few lemons and limes. Then have A glass of wine with dinner or main apps.
IF you do go with cocktails and wine….Try to limit the sweets.  Remember its all a numbers game!
Visit the people, not the food. Move socializing away from the buffet or appetizer table to prevent mindless eating.  Yes, you know what I am talking about!  haha
Say no to food pushers.  WE all know that ONE person that pushes and they push because they don’t want to be the one feeling guilty!  DO YOU because at the end of the day that is what matters most.
Savor seasonal treats. Having your favorite full-out treats once or twice a year will not make or break your weight. Make sure you take time to really taste and enjoy that special treat when you have it.
Eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed. No one likes that icky, stuffed feeling after a meal. Eat slowly, and check your fullness levels while you’re eating. Remember — there are always leftovers!
LASTLY…..Don’t feel guilty and ENJOY yourself.  If you did overindulge, don’t beat yourself up. Just make sure your next day is back on Fit Diva Track.
Defiantly be sure to incorporate some sort of exercise into your routine. Not to just burn calories, but to get that digestive system going.
Sweating always just feels good and gets that layer of bloat off the body.
Drink tons of water and add lemon.  A lot of foods and desserts have added sodium.
Maybe even, keep the next day lower in carb, super lean proteins and lots of veggies to allow your digestion system to get back on track.
Especially if your traveling…some of us get what we call “poop shy”…HEY…just being real and that feels even worse after heavy foods, less water and less exercise.

Bottom Line

Enjoy the holidays, pick and choose what you really want, exercise even if its 15-20 minutes (check out www.FitDivaDecks.com for motivaton), it still helps and most importantly to do any of this…be MIND-FULL!!!!!!
