Fried Food with Good Fats and fewer Calories
Say What???? Ok Ok, way less fat than greasy, stick to your muffin top or thighs fried food! We need good fats in our diva diet, but the fat from fried food is not Diva approved! Only on your cheat night if that’s what your craving! I’m not a big fan of fried food but sometimes it is nice to enjoy the taste and texture of sweet potato fries or french fries or crispy onion rings or chicken fingers or even apple fritters!!!
As a gift, my sweetheart surprised me with the ….Air Fryer! No, we don’t use it on a weekly basis, but it is a nice option a few times a month! Especially with kids!
I know I repeat myself, but I do not believe In diets!! Learn how to make healthy changes to the foods you love! Lets go over how it works and some recipes I LOVE!!
How does it Work?
How does it work? The food goes into a basket, like a typical fryer. But instead of getting submerged in sizzling oil, the basket is blasted with high-speed hot air that cooks the food to a crispy finish. Genius! |
5 Reasons its worth the purchase
If you love the taste of fried food but not excess calories and fat, this awesome air fry-er delivers. Yes we can make crispy chicken fingers in the oven or even fries, but this little gadget truly makes it taste like fried food! It gets better: We tried them with and without a small amount of oil (per the air friar instructions) and found that NO added oil is needed to achieve that crispy finish.
It does more than Fry.. I’d hesitate to recommend splurging on a kitchen gadget that can only do one thing. Especially if its something I don’t use all the time. So I was pretty happy to learn that the air fryer can also bake, grill, and roast. I’m talking meatballs, steak… even muffins and cake! The manual includes a comprehensive chart with foods, temps, and times, which I LOVE.
It’s a time saver! My oven takes around 10 minutes to preheat, but an air fryer takes only about 3 minutes. Plus, some recipes cook WAY faster in an air fryer… My butternut squash fries were air-fryer ready in just 12 minutes, versus the 35 minutes they take in the oven! I know all of us busy fit divas need time-saving meals!!
Clean-up is a breeze. No messy pans or oily skillet. You can toss the fryer pan and the basket right into the dishwasher when you’re done with them! YES!
The built-in timer has an auto switch-off feature to keep the absent-minded chef in check. Have you ever gotten distracted while something was in the oven and returned to burnt food? Our air fryer’s self-timer turns off the unit when time is up!
Diva-Licious Recipe
There are SO many healthy foods and recipes you can make with the air fryer. A few of my favs were chicken tenders made with egg whites, panko & 1 tsp of olive oil. Thats It! And same quality as comfort food! Sweet potato fries, french fries, apple fritter crisps & my MOST Favorite…. coconut “fried” shrimp! I mean….C’mon! So healthy and feels like your cheating! Good fats from your shredded coconut.
- sweet potato fries and the Diva
Ingredients:
- 1/2 lbs peeled, florid shrimp
- 1/2 cup shredded coconut
- 1/2 cup panko crumbs
- 1/4 flour….your choice of flour! Oat, Wheat…
- 2 egg whites
- olive oil spray
Directions:
- Combine coconut and panko in one bowl, flour in another and egg whites in another!
- Dredge raw shrimp in flour, then egg, then coconut mix.
- Place in basket.
- Repeat for all.
- Then spray with olive oil! “Fry”……. Tastes like fried shrimp!
Dipped in pineapple salsa and a little hot sauce! Great App or add-on to dinner.
In Conclusion..
Again, this is just another way to incorporate foods that are off-limits. Once you get into a groove of eating healthy the less you crave the “junk”. However, from time to time…it is nice to know we can still enjoy classic favorites without going off Fit diva track!
If you need more ideas..let me know! Life should be enjoyed! If you’re not happy..CHANGE IT!
