Lean Green Diva Machine
Ciao Bellas
Its Friday and the weekend is right around the corner. Just in time to chat about some ways to help reset & detox the body.
How many of you truly get in enough greens into your daily food intake? Be honest! It gets tough, I know. Like anything else, we just need a reminder to get into a new habit and try something new.
Why do we need leafy greens?
No matter what fitness and health goals we may have, it is crucial to allow the liver, colon and skin to detox a regular basis. We all eat something…or more often drink something;) breathe something or take a medication that causes our body systems to slow down and get off-balance. I do not suggest a juice cleanse due to the muscle loss and slowing down of the metabolism that is typically associated with a lengthy cleanse. However, we can consume some naturally detoxifying greens in our weekly meals.
What Greens should I eat?
Brussels Sprouts: Chop, shave, leave whole! Steam, sauté or have raw…these powerful greens are rich in many valuable nutrients. They are an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin K. They are a very good source of numerous nutrients including folate, manganese, vitamin B6, dietary fiber, choline, copper, vitamin B1, potassium, phosphorus, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Saute the following in one saute pan sprayed with olive oil:
- Diced red onion
- 25-30 Brussels sprouts chopped in half
- 1 small green apple sliced
- 2 pieces of turkey bacon diced up
- ⅛ cup apple cider vinegar
- Pink salt, garlic
- Saute over medium heat until brussels sprouts become a little tender
- Makes 4 servings
Kale,Spinach or Bok Choy: Super high in Calcium…which all of us divas need. Also super cleansing and easy to chop and sauté with olive oil, garlic sea salt and balsamic!
Dandelion leaves: Pretty bitter in taste, but it does the job in getting rid of toxins and excess bloat. Mix with spinach, basil, garlic, sea salt, pepper, olive oil and fresh lemon.
Fresh Parsley: considered a “Healing and Detoxifying” herb and an excellent source of Vitamin C Add it to any greens for flavor.
Greens can be made into a daily smoothie if you would like! I recommend incorporating them into your meals as well.
